For several years, the ITU-T has been diligently working on a formal Recommendation to address the Open Cable business model, as it pertains to submarine communication networks. In 2021, the outcome of this work will be published as the ITU-T G.977.1 industry standard, which includes contributions from Open Cable Working Groups as well as several industry experts associated with submarine cable system design, commissioning, and acceptance. The standardization of the Open Cables business model will change and accelerate how submarine cables are designed, deployed, and managed.
