Testing" is by far not the same as "Quality assurance". Most metrics used to judge test coverage are dangerously misleading. Organizations are attempting to mis-purpose Test Automation as a brute-force replacement for them but failing – since that's not what automation is for. The result is a decrease in software quality, as well as uncertainty regarding whether a product has been tested enough.
