Platform architect Ankit Navik has been with Intel for eight years and also has a passion for teaching. He believes everyone should have the option to work independently, something that’s still a challenge for individuals with disabilities. That’s what inspired him to teach and give back to society.

Ankit enrolled in the Intel Involved volunteering program as soon as he heard about it back in 2015. He began teaching students with disabilities from around Karnataka state in India—first at The Association of People with Disability (APD) and now at Youth4jobs Foundation. Students learn about mobile repairs, embedded devices, and laptop and PC repair.

Ankit says the employee volunteering program started in 2013 with a few volunteers and has grown to 25-30 volunteers today. Seeing how many students found jobs with the skills they learned, he began inquiring about companies’ needs and market trends in order to base courses on these. Ankit has found that giving students practical and hands-on training is the best way to make them job-ready for the future.

Navateja N was one of Ankit’s students at APD, and both are now involved with Youth4jobs Foundation. Navateja says the training is very important to people with disabilities like himself, enabling them to generate income and even start a business. Ankit agrees, consistently seeing students gain confidence over time thanks to their experiences in these programs. It’s a win-win situation, where giving back to the community also produces skilled workers.

Ankit recommends that whatever one is passionate about is what they should give back to society—to pass it on to the next generation. Ankit has previously been recognized with the Intel Involved Global Hero Award and he thanks his fellow volunteers, without whom the accomplishment would not be possible, he says.
