The metro is the “new edge” where 5G, edge cloud hosting, connectivity and service experiences are converging creating unprecedented challenges and opportunities for operators. To thrive and differentiate in this new era, metros must evolve to keep pace with unrelenting demand for capacity, agility and quality of service. This is no longer a prognostication; the dynamics of this new world are materializing in user expectations and network transformations. To meet demand―largely driven by the customer and operator migration to the cloud―cloud principles must be applied to architecting, building and operating metro networks – a Cloud Metro.
Aimed at revealing the progress of this evolution, Heavy Reading conducted a 2022 survey, followed by a May 2023 survey, with input from 84 operators globally. This webinar presents a comprehensive and compelling snapshot of the Cloud Metro evolution from the perspective of the analyst, the operator, the networking equipment vendor and the system integrator. Key findings include modernization drivers, essential capabilities, automation and the role of coherent pluggable optics.
Speakers:
• Sterling Perrin, Sr. Principal Analyst – Optical Networks & Transport, Heavy Reading
• Michael Fränkle, CTO Tele Columbus AG – their Cloud Metro deployment
• Tim Pennell, Sr. Director, Product Management, Juniper Networks
• Hiroko Ashida, Global xHaul Strategy Manager, NEC
